Update on the forge 2015
« on: January 01, 2015, 08:52:48 PM »
I'm afraid I've got some really bad news, we went for a New Years day walk to the forge today only to discover it has been demolished, they've left the petrol pump but everything else has been completely cleared...

I don't know when it was demolished but it must have been fairly recently, I wish I'd known they were going to do it so soon & I could have salvaged something. All in all it was a dismal way to start 2015! I did get a glimpse of Hollin Hall on the way back up Wike Lane, it's just too wet to venture down there at the mo, should've gone last weekend when it was frozen...

That's so sad to see the Forge gone   >:(
Thanks for the update hollinhare   >41<
It seems strange that they've only knocked the Forge down and left all the other buildings, maybe they're staying. Surely they would have knocked them all down together and moved the rubble in one go.  >48<
The poor petrol pump looks a bit lonely on it's own  :(

It looks like they're selling the cottage which 'requires renovation' (vast understatement!) & with the forge gone there's room for the garage pictured on the for sale sign. We think they'll sell the barn that stood behind the forge as a separate plot later, they've been sniffing round that for a couple of years. Another triumph of greed over respect for history  >:( >:( >47<

That's official now then there's no Forge on Forge lane,  >:(
I wonder whether the council will rename the road and just have a longer Wike lane now  >48<  :(
Maybe it should now be renamed "No forge lane"  :(

I can see what you mean now Hollinhare the picture on the bill board does resemble the existing cottage. Fair bit of work to do there.  ::)

Hope the petrol pump is preserved at a museum or other collection, it is certainly of recent historical interest.

Even more so if it was still fitted with a petrol company globe on top.... though if it were, no doubt someone would have had it away by now. >103<

I think that's it... >41< £350,000 plus rebuilding costs for a piece of history.

Thanks MZ, I've had a go at that link as it wasn't working for some reason LINK HERE

Well out of my price range. If I bought it I'd rebuild the forge!

I can't see the pump in their photos.  >48<  Maybe it's the angle or they've photo-shopped it out, or it's been chucked in a skip  >:(   I hope it went/goes to a good home.....
