And the best part of it is not just the price, one could perhaps get the wanted item more easily in the book stores or internet, but it is the uncertainty of the treasure hunt and the surprise when finally finding something long lost!! And that one was not just lost but also forgotten. The feeling was a bit like the one I had when pressing play with the first episode on FF dvd and hearing for the first time Settlers since I was 5 years old........................!

Isn't it a great feeling to find a bargain book in charity shops, flea markets etc.  8)

Thanks Sue, the World End in Winter was signed, which is always a bonus. But not a bargain like your House at Worlds End for 20p. That really was a good find  8)   :)

I picked up 'The Messenger' yesterday in a charity shop - one of Monica's children's books.   There's an introduction that sounds like it could have come from 'The Dream' episode of Follyfoot.

"Once, as she was struggling up out of a heavy dream of sadness, she heard someone weeping.  Who was it?"

There's also a girl called Hazel in it.

Good find Loopy  ;)

I don't normally like fantasy books but I did enjoy the messenger series.

Have you read her Worlds End series Loopy? There are big similarities to Follyfoot in those books too.  :)

No I haven't - I'll have to keep my eyes open for them.

Starting reading this recently republished edition of One Pair of Hands.  8)

I wonder if Monica got her idea of Sluggers bad cooking skills from her own experiences as a cook/general help. She admits she was an awful a cook when she started her "downstairs" career  :D

If she was that bad she'd never have kept her job!!  ;D

But, yes, we all draw on our own experiences don't we.

100% better at writing than cooking that's for sure.  >49<  Amazingly she got another job as cook after getting the sack  :o I won't say too much for those who haven't read it, but there are things she does that would have made even Slugger's hair curl  :D

I vaguely remember reading this one as a teenager - must pick up a copy again if only to read about her awful cooking!  ;D ;D
Cheers,
