Family of Strangers

Was there ever an explanation of why on the DVDs the "Family of Strangers" episode is of far higher quality than all the other episodes? Much brighter, cleaner colours, far less video "noise".

No I don't know either.  >48<

Pity they weren't all like that. One episode is quite bad for quality, can't remember which one now  >18<

I was watching some episodes the other day, first time for years. Most of them are a bit ropey, but the quality of that one stands out a mile. Weird eh? Was it shot on better film? Video instead of film? was it just looked after a bit better?

In "One White Foot Charley" watch the bit early on where actor Bert Palmer is dozing off in his arm chair. There is a hair stuck to the lens that moves about in front of his face.   :)

I ran a short clip though some software I have. It's on here twice.  The first pass is unprocessed, second is processed. It's indoors and the lighting is poor, so it's difficult  to enhance. Do you think it's better, worse or indifferent?

I stand to be corrected but I think they were all shot on film, so maybe a better quality film?

Not much in it but I think the second pass is slightly better.

Isn't it funny how we see things differently. I've just watched again and still the first looks better to me.  :)

Mind you my eyesight is pretty rubbish  :D

Has anyone got an off-air VHS recording of 'Family of Strangers' and other episodes from when they were broadcast in the late 1980s? It would be interesting to know if the quality was better on the broadcast version or just the same as the others.

Hercules - I can see a minor difference in the two clips, but don't really think either is better or worse than the other...  >98<

My eyes see the processed version as being a bit brighter with more contrast, but also a bit "fake" looking.  :)
